According to The Mirror, this house is situated on Ellidaey, a remote island south of Iceland. This small island is part of Vestmannaeyjar, an archipelago of 15 to 18 islands. Today, the island is deserted, but it was once inhabited by five families.

Not sure about the houses, as they maybe pre owned, but this secluded Italian lodge can give you a piece of tranquility and isolation. On the Hills of Dolomites you can free yourself from pesky neighbors and feel like you’ve entered another world where there is hardly any life to mingle with. But I guess someone went overboard with the thought of living in a village that he got a house in the middle of an extensive field. A touching middle-grade / children’s story that beautifully captures the challenges of adjusting to a new environment.
The lighthouse seen here may have been the same one mentioned in the book by the Youngs, even though this would have been a different Elliðaey. It's also possible that the Elliðaey in the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) once had a lighthouse in the past, but no longer does. The confusion stemmed from news stories in February 2000 that described a second Icelandic island also named Elliðaey (Ellidaey).
